Lake Malombe, Lake Malawi, Malawi
South end of Lake Malombe, with its outflow at right into the Middle Shire River, Malawi. Looking ENE.
Note the beach ridges along the near shore. 26-April-1971
Inflow of upper Shire River into Lake Malombe from the Islander. 26-April-1971
Nkatcha seine on Lake Malombe: lined with mosquito netting, it catches mostly fish under 3cm long which are dried and used to
flavour soup, so the lake yields about 200 tonnes of tiny fish per annum, (so I am told) instead of 10,000 t of high value tilapia in the 1980s.
