Sediment-free rocky habitat.
Found at depths between approximately 5 and 30 meters.
Geographic distribution:
Lake Malawi (Mphanga area).
Typical adult size:
Males up to about 9 cm, females around 7 cm total length.
Recommended aquarium size:
250 L or larger.
Aquarium setup:
Rock-dominated setup with plenty of caves and hiding places.
Recommended stocking is one male with 3–4 females, or larger groups
in sufficiently spacious aquaria.
Diet:
Herbivorous aufwuchs feeder.
Primarily feeds on algae scraped from rock surfaces.
Breeding:
Presumed maternal mouthbrooder, as typical for the genus Chindongo.
Aggression:
Highly aggressive within the species.
Aggression toward other species is mainly related to territorial defense.
Special notes:
An elongatus-complex population known from the Mphanga area.
