Lethrinops christyi 'South East Arm'
Genus: Lethrinops
Type locality: Monkey Bay, Lake Malawi.
Biotope: Sandy bottom habitats in deeper areas of the lake, where the species is commonly captured by bottom trawling.
Geographic distribution: Southern parts of Lake Malawi, including the southern arms of the lake.
Typical adult size: Up to about 18 cm total length.
Sexual dimorphism: Ripe males develop a blue-grey body coloration with eight prominent dark vertical bars, and dark blue head and fins.
Diet: Carnivorous. Stomach contents indicate feeding primarily on chironomid larvae.
Breeding: Maternal mouthbrooder.
Special notes: Characterized by a very pointed snout and a small terminal mouth. Often confused with similar sand-dwelling species with more slender body shapes.
