Sandy habitat; observed hunting over sand at about 35 m depth.
Geographic distribution:
Recorded from Makokola Reef and Luwala Reef, and also
reported from Mbenji Island.
Typical adult size:
About 25 cm total length.
Diet:
Piscivorous; hunts small fishes over sandy bottoms.
Breeding:
Territorial males defend small, shallow spawning pits in the sand near
rocks. Mouthbrooding females move over the sand.
Special notes:
A very elongate predator with flank spots arranged in a distinct diagonal
line, though the spots are often uneven in size and the pattern is less
regular than in Mylochromis gracilis.
