Type locality: Msaka, Lake Malawi, Malawi
Biotope: Deep-water habitat below 50 m, living and breeding in subdued light; species of this assemblage generally display a bottom-dwelling habitus.
Geographic distribution: Msaka, Lake Malawi (Malawi).
Typical adult size: Not specified; deep-water Placidochromis species are generally small, most under 10 cm standard length.
Special notes: Member of Hanssens’ group 5 within the deep-water Placidochromis complex, characterized by 11–13 gill rakers. The deep-water Placidochromis represent a species flock occurring at depths greater than 50 m.
