Taeniolethrinops macrorhynchus 'Chesese'
Genus: Taeniolethrinops
Type locality: Lake Malawi
Biotope: Sandy habitats; a group of mouthbrooding females has been encountered at about 20 m depth (Luwala Reef).
Geographic distribution: Lake Malawi, including the northwestern shores and the southeastern arm; reported from Luwala Reef (Malawi) and also referenced in association with Nkhata Bay collections.
Breeding: A group of mouthbrooding females has been observed at about 20 m depth at Luwala Reef, Malawi. Breeding males have not been observed.
Special notes: Characterized by a long snout and a distinct diagonal band on the flank, and separated from T. laticeps by the noticeably longer snout. It was long treated as a synonym of T. praeorbitalis; later work re-examined the type and highlighted the prominent diagonal stripe. Long-snouted, banded forms from multiple localities are grouped under this name, including fish imported as “Lethrinops Laticeps Itungi” (sometimes also “Aulonocara Rostratus”).
