Rocky habitat.
Found over large rocks, slabs and boulders, mainly on upper surfaces.
Depth range approximately 3–12 m, with observations down to about 18 m.
Geographic distribution:
Southeastern Lake Malawi.
Known from Luwala Reef and Chimwalani Reef (formerly West Reef and Eccles Reef).
Typical adult size:
Unknown.
Likely around 12 cm total length, based on closely related species.
Sexual dimorphism:
Present.
Females are smaller, duller in coloration and have shorter fins than males.
Recommended aquarium size:
500 L or larger.
Aquarium setup:
Large rock-dominated aquarium with extensive stonework and many crevices.
Layout must allow formation of distinct territories and visual separation.
Diet:
Aufwuchs-based diet.
Grazes filamentous algae and associated organisms; may also take plankton.
Breeding:
Maternal mouthbrooder.
Presumed identical to other members of the Pseudotropheus longior super-species.
Aggression:
Very high.
Strongly territorial and aggressive toward conspecifics and other mbuna.
Special notes:
Undescribed elongatus-type mbuna with brownish coloration.
