Genus: Iodotropheus
Biotope: Rocky environment along the Mozambican coast, where the species is only rarely observed.
Geographic distribution: Mozambican coast of Lake Malawi between Londo and Mesule (between Lumbaulo and Ntumba).
Typical adult size: Males up to 10 cm in the lake and up to about 11 cm in the aquarium; females grow to about 8 cm.
Sexual dimorphism: Males grow larger than females.
Recommended aquarium size: 250 liters.
Aquarium setup: Aquarium with many hiding places; best kept with several females and other non-aggressive mbuna species.
Diet: In the lake feeds on food found on algae-covered rocks. In the aquarium accepts a wide range of food including spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops, and shrimp-peas mix.
Aggression: One of the most peaceful cichlids of Lake Malawi; occasional intolerance within the species, very tolerant toward other species.
