Off shores at Nkhata Bay, central west oast of Lake Malawi.
Biotope:
Rocky areas in shallow water,
inhabiting the surf biotope,
down to a depth of about 12 metres.
Geographic distribution:
Endemic to Lake Malawi,
known from the northwestern coast,
along the shores north of Kande Island on the west coast,
and all rocky shores north of Undu Point on the eastern shore.
Typical adult size:
Up to 6.4 cm SL.
Sexual dimorphism:
Sometimes a difference in coloration between male and female;
males may show a dark-blue cast on the body
or appear almost black.
Diet:
Carnivorous feeding behavior,
feeding on biocover and on plankton when available.
Aggression:
Males do not appear to be territorial.
Special notes:
There are minor geographical differences between populations,
and differences can also be detected between individuals
within a single population.
