Genus: Maylandia
Biotope: Intermediate habitat with relatively sediment-free rocky areas. The species prefers rockier parts of the intermediate zone rather than heavily sedimented substrates.
Geographic distribution: Northwestern coast of Lake Malawi, occurring from Mphanga Rocks to Ruarwe.
Sexual dimorphism: Females are gray-brown and show the same black markings in the fins as males.
Special notes: This small, elongate mbuna is assigned to the kingsizei group, which comprises species inhabiting the more rocky and less sediment-rich parts of the intermediate habitat along the northwestern shore of the lake.
