Otopharynx sp. 'heterodon likoma' Likoma Island
Genus: Otopharynx
Biotope: Sandy habitat.
Geographic distribution: Likoma Island, Lake Malawi; recorded at Ndomo Point where it occurs sympatrically with O. heterodon.
Typical adult size: Maximum total length about 20 cm.
Diet: Exhibits feeding behaviour similar to O. sp. ‘auromarginatus jakuta’, collecting debris and plankton just above the sand.
Breeding: Lek-breeder; males construct bowers on the sand.
Special notes: Undescribed species formerly misidentified as O. heterodon. Differs from that species by larger size, more elongate body, and differences in pigmentation pattern. Displays three flank spots, the largest elongate below the dorsal fin, whereas in O. heterodon the spots are smaller and vertical bars more pronounced.
