Placidochromis nkhotakotae 'Nkhotakota-Sungu Spit'
Genus: Placidochromis
Type locality: Nkhotakota, Lake Malawi, Malawi
Biotope: Deep-water habitat at depths exceeding 50 m, recorded from 112–114 m, associated with the deep-living Placidochromis assemblage occurring in subdued light conditions.
Geographic distribution: Endemic to Nkhotakota, Lake Malawi, Malawi.
Special notes: The sole representative of group 2 within the deep-water Placidochromis complex as defined by Hanssens (2004). Characterized by 27–30 gill rakers and a very long premaxillary pedicel measuring about 35 % of head length. Reported as probably conspecific with the taxon referred to by Turner (1996) as Placidochromis sp. ‘hennydaviesae II’.
