Intermediate habitat; at Mbenji most frequently associated
with sediment-rich areas.
Geographic distribution:
Endemic to the Mbenji Islands in Lake Malawi.
Sexual dimorphism:
Males can resemble those of Tropheops sp. ‘mbenji blue’
in overall coloration but are distinguished by a black
submarginal band in the dorsal fin.
Special notes:
Member of the double-stripe group. Around Mbenji it occurs
in sympatry with Tropheops sp. ‘mbenji blue’, which occupies
sediment-free rocky habitats, whereas T. sp. ‘mbenji yellow’
is associated with sediment-rich zones.
