Genus: Lethrinops
Type locality: Off Monkey Bay, Lake Malawi.
Biotope: Deep water over muddy bottoms (reported around 90–130 m).
Geographic distribution: Endemic to Lake Malawi; reported primarily from the southern region (SE Arm) off Monkey Bay in deep-water habitats.
Typical adult size: Up to about 14.4 cm SL (total length commonly reported up to roughly 18–20 cm).
Diet: Sediment-sifter that feeds mainly on small invertebrates (e.g., insect larvae and small crustaceans); also takes zooplankton and diatoms/other fine food items found in the mud.
Special notes: A deep-water demersal species often taken in trawl catches; assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. The species name honors Jean-Pierre Gosse.
