Genus: Mylochromis
Type locality: Lake Malawi, south east arm, just north west of Boadzulu Island.
Biotope: Sandy habitat.
Geographic distribution: Known only from the south east arm of Lake Malawi, off Boadzulu Island; recorded from depths of 15–28 m.
Typical adult size: Males up to 21 cm total length; females about 16 cm total length.
Recommended aquarium size: An aquarium volume of 500 L is recommended.
Aquarium setup: Provide a sandy bottom with as much open sand as possible, interrupted by several larger stones. Keep one male with several females.
Diet: Carnivorous; feeds mainly on invertebrates found on or in the sand. It does not scoop up sand but rapidly screens the substrate for edible items.
Aggression: Peaceful and best maintained with other calm cichlid species.
Special notes: An extremely elongate species with a solid diagonal stripe. Breeding individuals have not been observed underwater; the species is considered rare.
