Genus: Placidochromis
Type locality: North of Mvunguti, Malawi, Lake Malawi
Biotope: Deep-water benthic habitats in the South-East Arm of Lake Malawi at depths of 70–125 m.
Geographic distribution: Known only from the South-East Arm of Lake Malawi, north of Mvunguti, Malawi.
Typical adult size: Up to 15 cm total length.
Special notes: A relatively elongate deep-water species characterized by a pointed snout, flattened lower jaw and a comparatively large mouth. The body is generally silvery with a pinkish-brown hue and shows 6 broad vertical bars under the dorsal fin. It was previously collected under the name Haplochromis acuticeps before formal description.
