Previous pageTrematocranus brevirostris 'South East Arm'
Genus: Trematocranus
Type locality: From the bar at the south end of the lake, Lake Malawi, Malawi
Geographic distribution: Reportedly restricted to the southern tip of the southeastern arm of Lake Malawi, south of Boadzulu Island.
Typical adult size: Up to about 10 cm total length.
Biotope: Deeper-water benthic habitat; recorded at about 19–40 m depth near the southern side of Boadzulu Island.
Diet: Generalized benthic feeder (based on stomach analyses of three specimens).
Special notes: The provided notes on Trematocranus labifer indicate a mouth form reminiscent of Otopharynx ovatus and Protomelas insignis, but the suspected specimen was not preserved, and field surveys cited did not record T. labifer.
