Type locality: Southern end of Lake Malawi
Biotope: Sandy shores of southern Lake Malawi.
Geographic distribution: Southern Lake Malawi.
Typical adult size: Up to 21 cm total length.
Special notes: Rare three-spotted species distinguished by a body shape in which the ventral profile closely mirrors the dorsal profile, and by a terminal mouth with neither jaw strongly protruding. The suprapectoral spot is elongate, positioned mid-body, entirely below the upper part of the lateral line and separated from it by a gap.
