Genus: Petrotilapia
Biotope: Somewhat deeper rocky habitat.
Geographic distribution: Recorded at Mphanga Rocks and Katale Island, including the reefs between these localities.
Sexual dimorphism: Females exhibit a melanin pattern similar to that of P. microgalana, but with usually more prominent vertical bars.
Special notes: Very dark-colored mbuna belonging to the P. nigra group. Most common at Mphanga Rocks, where only a few individuals of P. microgalana are present; at Katale Island P. microgalana is more common.
