Genus: Petrotilapia
Geographic distribution: From Mbamba Bay to Ikombe in the far north of the lake, including Magunga Reef, Higga Reef, and the rocky shore south of Mbamba Bay (Chuwa).
Sexual dimorphism: Male breeding coloration similar across populations north and south of the Ruhuhu River; some isolated populations exhibit an overall ochre coloration. Female coloration very similar in all populations, including ochre-colored ones.
Special notes: Nigra-type Petrotilapia resembling P. nigra from the Cape Maclear area. Distinct ochre-colored populations at Magunga Reef, Higga Reef, and Chuwa are regarded as geographical variants due to the absence of an impassable barrier between populations.
