Rocky habitat, often in areas with relatively little sediment.
Typically associated with rock faces and crevices.
Geographic distribution:
Lake Malawi, western shore around the Nkhata Bay region.
Typical adult size:
Approximately 10–12 cm total length.
Recommended aquarium size:
300 L or larger.
Aquarium setup:
Rock-dominated aquarium with many caves and visual barriers.
Best kept as one male with several females, or in larger groups
only in sufficiently spacious tanks.
Diet:
Herbivorous aufwuchs feeder.
Grazes algae and associated microorganisms from rock surfaces.
Breeding:
Presumed maternal mouthbrooder, as typical for Chindongo species.
Aggression:
High intraspecific aggression.
Territorial males may be aggressive toward similar mbuna species.
Special notes:
A blue-colored elongatus-type population from the Nkhata Bay area.
