Genus: Lethrinops
Type locality: Off Monkey Bay, Lake Malawi 14°03'S, 34°56'E, 30 fm.
Biotope: Soft substrates at depths between 35 and 100 metres.
Geographic distribution: Endemic to the southern part of Lake Malawi.
Typical adult size: Up to 13.1 cm standard length.
Special notes: The species has greatly declined and is threatened by trawl fisheries. Little is known about its population size and distribution within Lake Malawi.
