Genus: Placidochromis
Type locality: Nkhata Bay, Lake Malawi, Malawi
Biotope: Deep-water habitat below 50 m, forming part of the deep-living Placidochromis species flock composed mainly of small bottom-dwelling species adapted to low-light conditions.
Geographic distribution: Recorded from Wissman Bay, Tanzania, and South Bay, Nkhata Bay, Malawi, Lake Malawi.
Special notes: Member of Hanssens’ deep-water group 4, comprising species with 8–10 gill rakers and a basic melanin pattern of vertical bars.
