Deeper rocky habitat; males hold territories in deeper zones
while females and non-territorial individuals forage in the upper
layer of the biotope.
Geographic distribution:
Recorded around Maleri Islands, Mbenji Island, and Jalo Reef.
Sexual dimorphism:
Males very dark with a brownish ground color and orange or
rusty-colored patches on the lower head and chest.
Aggression:
Males described as less aggressive than other
Petrotilapia in the same area.
Special notes:
Member of the P. nigra group. Characterized by a very dark
brownish ground color rather than blue. Considered the representative
of this group around the Maleri and Mbenji islands and Jalo Reef.
